The Santa Slayer Project
Hello I am The Leukemia Slayer. I was diagnosed with ALL (Leukemia) in December 2010, and came close to spending Christmas in the hospital. I was lucky to be able to come home a week or so before and could have Christmas at home. I felt bad for all the other kids who could not be home for Christmas, so in 2011 I decided to be Santa Slayer for my hospital, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. I asked all my Facebook fans to donate just one dollar to the cause, so I could buy toys and deliver them to all the kids on the oncology floor. My awesome fans donated way more than I ever expected, and I had $1700.00 to buy toys with! I know it made everyone feel good because the kids all had big smiles and some of the Moms and Dads cried a little when I delivered the gifts. Last year I had my second Santa Slayer Project. My awesome fans donated enough for me to not only buy tons of gifts for the Oncology Department but the Ronald McDonald house too! I also had great people help out, for example the Four Seasons in East Palo Alto bought all the wrapping paper and they wrapped all the gifts. Another fan held a toy drive for me. It was really cool to see people coming together to help make kids smile.
I will be in treatment until March 2014, and have spent lots of time inpatient. It is hard to be stuck in a hospital room, especially if you are in isolation and can't even go on a walk. It's even harder to be stuck there during the holidays when it feels like the rest of the world is out having fun but since you have cancer you have to spend your time fighting to kick its butt. I really want to do the Santa Slayer project again this year to make kids stuck in the hospital smile and know that other people care about them.
If you would like to help me you can donate to the project by clicking the PayPal donate button at the top of this page. Seriously, just $1.00 makes a difference! All money donated will go to buy gifts for the kids (and siblings!) at LPCH Oncology unit. If I have lots of toys I will also donate some to The Ronald McDonald House in Palo Alto too.
Thank you in advance for helping me with my 3rd Annual Santa Slayer Project! If you have any questions you can contact me through my Facebook page (see link at top of page). Below is a link to a news story on my very first Santa Slayer Project. Happy Holidays to you all!
